Share Your Creativity - Enter the Franklin PTA Reflections Art Competition

This an opportunity for student to use their creative talents to explore the arts and express themselves by sharing how they will change the world.


What is Reflections?

Reflections is a National PTA arts competition offered through the Franklin PTA.


Who can participate?

Any student attending Franklin. There are 3 categories available for students at our school: K-2, 3-5, and Special Artist.


How to participate? 

Students enter a piece of art that goes through a judging process at the elementary school level with the potential to advance to the Council, State and National level.


What are the Art Categories?

A student may submit an entry in any of six categories:

  • Dance Choreography — Originally choreographed dance composition presented in a video entry
  • Film Production — Original works, with or without sound, of animation, narrative, documentary, experimental or multimedia
  • Literature — Original works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, prose, drama, reflective essay, narrative or short story. Entries must be a single literary work; collections are not accepted.
  • Music Composition — Original musical composition, with or without words, presented in an audio recording
  • Photography — Color or black and white. Included techniques: Photogram, panorama, photomontage (one print of multiple original photos), single or multiple exposure, negative sandwich.
  • Visual Arts — Drawing; painting in tempera, oil, acrylic, watercolor or T-shirt paints; computer-generated art; two-dimensional collage; printmaking; needlework; leather tooling (see link for all accepted visual art forms). NOTE: LWPTSA Council is accepting ONLY 2D visual art.


How to get started? 

Review the Rules for the category you wish to enter and the Franklin Checklist for Success

Reflect on the theme. Create a piece of art. Submit the art along with a completed Student Entry Form by the deadline. Student Entry Forms are located here and physical copies are available on the Reflections bulletin board in the cafeteria.


How are entries judged? 

All PTA Reflections program entries are judged on three criteria:

  1. Interpretation of Theme - How closely the piece relates to the theme, Show Your Voice, based on the artwork itself and the artist statement.
  2. Creativity - How creative and original the piece is in its conception of the theme and its presentation.
  3. Technical Skill - The level of skill demonstrated in the basic principles/techniques of the arts area.
