Board at the following month's meeting. A synopsis of the meeting
is published in the monthly Courier. PTA meetings are the first
Thursday of the month unless otherwise specified. President's Letter for November 2007 Where Does the Money Go? Our PTA jog-a-thon fundraiser was a smashing success on every level. The kids had a blast…even the Kindergarteners who got drenched with rain. Also, we had extraordinary parent involvement absolutely every step of the way. Parents wrote and directed the skit, prepared the envelopes, made posters, pinned on lap cards, warmed up students before they ran, passed out stickers, provided water, counted money and so much more! Of course one of the most important ways families participated in this fundraiser was by collecting donations. Our PTA Board is committed to making sure that EVERY SINGLE Ben Franklin student benefits from these contributions. To that end we fund assemblies, playground equipment, library materials, and supplies for the guided reading and math rooms. But did you know that we also give money directly to EVERY classroom teacher? Your child’s teacher can spend these funds as they choose to best benefit their own class. Here are just a few examples of what some of these funds have been used for. Mrs. Warner is purchasing Readers’ Theater materials, dictionaries, and beanbag chairs. Mrs. Sanchez got books, cassettes and cassette players for her listening centers. Ms. Denney acquired PE incentives, bulletin board materials, and balls. Ms. Flatau is purchasing a music video series and ukulele repair kits. Ms. Wobker bought math and reading games, special seats, room décor, and books for her class. All five Quest classes purchased supplies for art enrichment. Ms. Webster got incentive prizes for her class’s monthly drawing as well as writing and math curriculum aids. And Ms. Tarr, Ms. Berten, Mrs. Maxfield and others added to their classroom libraries. WOW! Our wonderful teachers are so thankful to the PTA for providing these resources. So, THANK YOU again for supporting the jog-a-thon fundraiser. Know that your generosity is directly impacting your own child, as well as every single student at Ben Franklin! -- Christine and Brenda Minutes from meeting of 9/6/2007 |
