Who exactly are the art docents? Art docents are parents who have a desire to explore art with kids. There’s no special teaching or art experience required- just a willingness to try something new! What are the art docents teaching this year? This year’s focus is on the elements of art that consist of line, shape, color, form, texture, space and value. Through our monthly study of each element, students at every grade level will understand the fundamentals. What’s the upside of being an art docent? The kids really love art and they especially love that parents take time to come in and teach it and explore it with them! As a docent you get to see kids shine in a different arena. Also, working on art with kids is a way to nurture your creative side and get a little messy! Where do the art docents come up with lessons? We are working on building a library of successful art projects. We have art docent "mentors" who can provide guidance and projects, as well as a library with ideas and resources. We encourage art docents to collaborate with the other docents for their grade -- great minds working together come up with great ideas! How big of a time commitment is being an art docent? Teach one (or more) lessons monthly, prep the art room in advance and clean up afterward. Recruiting multiple docents or "helpers" for each classroom helps… many hands make light work, especially in the art room! I might be interested in becoming an art docent. What do I do? Contact Pam or come to one of the art docent information meetings (times to be announced). |
