The Optimist Club of Issaquah's
4th Annual Bike Safety Fairs, both in Bellevue & Issaquah; The events are FREE and help teach children basic bicycle safety (just in time for Summer!) and we provide free helmets, fitted by police officers to those children who do not have or cannot afford them. Bike Safety Fair flier OptimistIs.org Why have a Bike Safety Fair? To instill the importance of bike safety in children of elementary school age, so they don’t become part of the startling statistics pertaining to children and head injuries, caused by improper equipment, lack of bike handling skills and not being aware of the rules of the road. The purpose of the Bike Safety Fair is also to provide helmets to children, whose families cannot afford a bike helmet. At the Bike Safety Fair children participate in bike activities to teach them “safety” in a fun environment. These include bike/helmet inspection, bike tune-up station, obstacle course with stop signs, crosswalk and more, interaction with police officers and fire fighters, bike registration, My ID program, etc. Also fun activities such as face painting! Parents will find community health, safety, educational and recreational resources. Bring non-perishable food items for our on-site Food Drive Many children depend heavily on subsidized school lunches as their main meal and nutrition source of the day. During school breaks, there is increased demand at food banks when these lunch programs for children are not operating. We will collect food items at the event so the food banks can meet this critical need. |
