Happy New Year

I hope everyone had a restful, fun-filled vacation.  I know I needed the time to regroup.  I would like to thank you for the wonderful cards and photos.   As I compare photos from previous years, I can see our kids are sure growing!  I would also like to thank students and families for the great treats and gifts you delivered before the break.

Principal’s Coffee

Every year I have done a few informal Principal Coffee Chats.  The first one for this school year will be Tuesday, January 22nd from 9:00-10:00 a.m. in our school library.  I will come prepared to share our school learning goals in reading, math, science and writing.  I will also be prepared to answer any questions or concerns you may have.  I look forward to our time together.

Kindergarten Registration

Before you know it, March 6th will be here and that means Kindergarten Registration.  If you know any families in your neighborhood, please pass the word.  Registration will be held from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the half-day kindergarten room,  room 114.   At that time, we will register for full-day and half- day kindergarten.  A lottery will be held the following week for those wishing to attend our all-day program.

Variances

If you know of anyone looking to variance into Franklin, they will need to register at their home school.  While there, they can complete a Variance form that will be passed on to Franklin.  Variances will not be reviewed until late May, early June.  For grades 1-6 you may complete a Variance form at your home school and those variances will be considered at the same time.

Family Program

The Family Learning Center is presenting “Once Upon a Mattress” a musical retelling of The Princess and the Pea.  There will be four programs:  February 7th & 8th at 7:00 p.m. and February 9th at 2:00 & 7:00 p.m.  Performances will be held at Cadle Theatre at Lake Washington High School.  Call (425) 653-4273 for more information.

International School

The International Community School will hold an informational night on January 16th from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the International School.  It is mandatory that the parent and student attend.  Applications will also be available at that time.  If you have further questions, email lhughes@lwsd.org

PTA Bingo Night

Do not miss out on a fun Family Night on January 17th from 6:30-8:00 p.m.  We will start selling tickets at 6:30 p.m. and the first game will begin at 6:40p.m.

Quest

Kamiakin Junior High will have a Curriculum Open House for the 2008-09 school year on Tuesday, March 4th, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the school.  If you are planning to continue in Quest next year, you may want to attend.

Jobs

The Lake Washington School District is looking for people who are interested in part time or full time work in food services, as custodial substitutes, Instructional Assistant substitutes and bus drivers.  Also needed are substitute teachers.  You may go on-line to apply.  A little extra cash comes in handy!
