Highly Gifted Education

The Gifted Education Advisory Council (GEAC) in LWSD is currently sponsoring two parent education classes.  The series of classes will run for seven Wednesdays, from 6:00 - 7:15 p.m. or, 7:30 - 8:45 p.m. at the Resource Center in Redmond Town Center.  Please contact Joanne Hall at jjjahall@juno.com for more information.

Lunch Accounts

Did you know you can take care of your child’s lunch account on line?  All you do is log on to the district site and register, then click on the red apple on the right edge of the page and follow the directions.  Here are the exact steps:

  • Fill in the amounts, credit card #, and expiration date and click checkout
  • Verify the information and click pay now
  • Write down the transaction ID number

PTA Family Night

What a great turnout we had last Thursday.  Over 460 meals were served, not including seconds!

We had plenty of students, teachers and parents who volunteered.    I have never seen so much pasta and sauce in my life!  I hope you all had as much fun as I did.  Thank you to all the volunteers.

Sleep Counts

Sleep, or the lack of sleep, can have a major impact on a child’s success at school, according to an article in Newsweek, September 17, 2007.   A six year old child should have a bedtime between 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. with 11-13 hours of sleep.  A 7-11 year old child should have a bedtime between 8:00 – 9:00 p.m. and get 10 – 11 hours of sleep and a 12-17 year old should have a bedtime between 10:30 - 11:30 p.m. and get 8.5 - 9.5 hours of sleep.

Parent Connection Night

On Thursday, October 18th, from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m., we will host an evening for parents on how to help your child at home with their work in reading, math and writing.  Also, we will have a session on internet safety, security and privacy.  The math section will include games to reinforce the concepts your child is learning in school and the how and why of our math curriculum.   Sessions will last 45 minutes and parents will be able to attend two sessions.  Last year, we had over 100 parents attend and this year we have added new sessions.

Volunteers Needed

Mrs. Denney, our PE teacher, is looking for volunteers to help with the Running Club.  Students run in the morning before school, at recesses and after school.  Please contact Mrs. Denney if you can help one day a week, or more.  Ms. McElfish is also looking for library volunteers.

Jog-a-thon

Wednesday, October 17th is our PTA fund raiser and will be a fun event.  We will jog, skip and walk, no matter if it’s rain or shine.  Join the fun and volunteer that day!
