Eager Eagle - September 13, 2007 Mary Cronin, Principal Ben Franklin Elem. Great Start Our first week of school is now history and
what a great beginning we had. First, the skies opened up to a
downpour to welcome parents and students back to school. Yuck!
It was a bit messy, but was handled extremely patiently and went
smoothly. We had numerous parents stay for the Welcome Back
Tea in the Commons and I saw lots of chatting, making connections
and getting back into the swing of school. Curriculum Nights September 13th is Curriculum Night for grades 4-6 (including Mrs. Ferrin/Arnold’s class). September 20th is Curriculum Night for grades 1-3 ( including the two ¾ Quest classes). This is probably the most important night for a
successful school year for your child. It establishes a
teacher/parent relationship and you learn about expectations,
procedures and curriculum. I hope you will make it a priority
to attend. Both begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Commons and it
is for parents only. PTA Membership The Ben Franklin PTA is one of the finest in our state. Thousands of dollars are filtered right back into the classrooms where each child reaps the benefits of our efforts. PTA has purchased hundreds of new guided reading books for all grades, the traversing wall in the gym, part of the play area equipment, classroom materials and support programs such as assemblies, outdoor education, KFN, choir and more. Please join the Ben Franklin PTA. We’re
going for 100% membership this year. I know we can do it! Family Night On Thursday, September 27, from 6:30-8:00 p.m.,
yours truly will be making a pasta dinner for the Family Night
Feast. Yes, real home-made pasta with my own sauce. We
will have meatless and meat sauces, penne, salad, drinks, and
dessert. I’ve even heard some “retired” teachers may pop in
and help???? You will be receiving a flyer soon. Parking On all evening events, we will have
the gate open so families may park on the asphalt part of the
playground. This should help a bit with traffic congestion.
During the day, please remember the side of the parking lot by the
flagpole is a drop-off/pick-up point only, except from 9:00 a.m. to
3:15 p.m. when you may park there. It is critical to follow
these times, as the flow of traffic moves much faster, and helps
prevent cars from lining up on 60th all the way to 132nd.
Stay in your car and wait for your child to come to you or, park in
a regular spot. Your help is appreciated. PE News An exciting program extension will
start soon. Look for flyers about the Seattle Kids Marathon,
Ben Franklin Running Club and Unicycling classes in the weekly
take-home packets on September 20th. Physical fitness
assessments will take place October 8th-12th
and parent volunteers will be needed in each 3rd-6th
grade classes. Consider helping out in some capacity by
