The Ben Franklin PTA Board of Directors consists of officers nominated by the Nominating Committee and elected by the general membership at the April PTA meeting for the following school year.  In addition there are volunteers who fill the committee chair positions.

HEALTH AND WELFARE VP’S:  Lisa Vincent and Petra Lamon

  Beautification – help needed for school improvement projects Pam Wilhelm
  Emergency Preparedness – help to organize and implement school emergency program Orchid Magd
  Families Helping Families – organize help for Franklin families in critical need Janet Irving
  Field Day – help organize parents and make necessary purchases for the all- school field day in June 2008 Diana Shaw
  Food Drive – help advertise, organize and deliver food collected by Franklin families to benefit local food banks Lile Ellefsen
  Parent Education Classes – help schedule speakers and parent education events for the school community Kathy Sanchez
  Health Screening – one day commitment (in the Fall) to help organize students for vision, hearing and scoliosis testing Lile Ellefsen
  Health Room Volunteers – Provide TLC for lunchtime bumps and bruises. Training provided. Andrew Stackhouse
  Popcorn – volunteers needed to pop and sell popcorn on Friday mornings Heidi O’Connor
  Safe Arrival – volunteers needed to telephone families of absent students who have not called in the absence Chairperson needed
  Safety Patrol/Playground – help organize parents to do walkabouts during recess to monitor games and activities April Gabbert
  T-Shirt Sales – help organize purchase and sale of school shirts Tamara Hill
  Walk to School Week – organize volunteers to greet walkers and schedule with police and fire department Julia Ednie & Gilda Parida
  Links – help in district volunteer program for schools that don’t have strong parent help--can be as little as half-an-hour per week or once a month Kristi Zikas

  Box Tops for Education™ – collect and submit box tops and labels for educational material and/or equipment Anita Axe

  Display Case – help brainstorm ideas and arrange display case in front hallway Tracy Harsvik

  Membership – help recruit PTA members and process memberships to state PTA

  Website Committee – help create and update Franklin PTA website.

Chairperson needed

  Room Parent Coordinator – organize room parents and keep them updated as needed for planned events Sally Norred
  School Pictures – help needed to organize students on picture day in the fall

  Student Directory – help assemble student information, input and distribute the student directory Tamara Hill
  Weekly Student Mail Packets (formerly Thursday Packets) – help needed to collate and distribute weekly student mail packets Linda Ruskell
  Volunteer Coordinator – help recruit and organize volunteers for various committees and activities Sally Norred
  New Family Welcome – prepare packets and information for families new to school Christine Muenz
  Legislation - help keep families informed on important issues and gather information on concerns to our community Cindy Burt
  Legislative Action Network – respond to email action alerts from Jan-April, approx 5 minutes a week Cindy Burt
  Special Needs Representative – act as liaison to the district Special Needs Committee Sally Vilardi
  Rose Hill Jr. High Representative – act as liaison to Rose Hill Jr. High PTA Linda Ruskell
 

EDUCATION AND ENRICHMENT VP’S:  Kathleen Shipman and Tamara Hill

  After-school Classes – help with organization of the after-school enrichment classes offered through out the school year. You do NOT have to stay after school.  You would help identify, approve and schedule enriching after school classes.  Classes offered in the past have included: three different language classes, Mad Science, and art. Chairperson needed
  Art Docent – work with the your child’s teacher to present art prints and projects monthly to the classes Sharon Morrison
  Chess Club – help needed to supervise and organize our chess program Chairperson needed
  School Savings – help students make deposits.  You can volunteer one time, monthly or weekly . . . all help is appreciated. Tamara Hill
  Reflections – help needed to organize, encourage students and judge entries in our cultural arts competition Maura Roberts
  Professional Science Program – provide classroom science enrichment with teachers Diana Shaw
  Professional Arts Program – coordinate/schedule all the teachers for one art class with the “Artist in Residence” (taught by a professional artist, already contracted) Emily Dietric

There is always room more for volunteers at Ben Franklin!  Contact Sally if you are interested in filling or helping with any of these areas.
