Think BIG!
Ben Franklin PTA is an unusual but exciting position: next year the PTA expects to have $17,000 in money that has not already been spent. While the PTA now spends the majority of funds collected in the year they are received (and we have spent the money raised this year), this year we are closing our SCRIP Account and reducing the bank balance accumulated from past years. We are asking teachers, students, and parents to help us determine how best to spend this money.
In general, the PTA spends most of the funds it raises each year directly on students via: assemblies, field trips, classroom funds for teachers, teaching supplies, stipends for teachers to provide choir, drama, leadership & green teams, and more. Lots of little, but important items, that the school does not have to pay for out of its budget. The amounts vary from a couple hundred dollars to a thousand dollars.
Now, we as a community have an opportunity to Think Big and fund a "big ticket" item at Ben Franklin. This situation occurs rarely, so rather than "just" adding it to next year's PTA budget, we want to be thoughtful in how the PTA uses it. This is where you come in - we need your input! We are asking parents, students, and staff to Think Big. Some examples of items that have come from the teachers and students are: a swimming pool (from kids!), a covered area for kids who waiting for car pickup (staff), soccer goals (kids), and more.
Please take the 2 question survey today. It is quick. It's anonymous. And it is a valuable input into next year's planning.
The PTA will collate suggestions on Thursday, May 24th, after which The PTA will send out a 2nd survey asking for your input on ranking the suggestions.
Thank you,
The Ben Franklin PTA Board
